The role
Applications are invited for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the School of Mathematics and Physics to characterise the performance of perovskite materials for use as radiation detectors.
You will investigate the structure and morphology of various perovskite materials, and investigate their electrical and optical response to radiation as both semiconductor and scintillator radiation detectors. The structural quality and composition of the materials will be investigated using techniques which include XRD, Raman, STEM/EDX etc. Optical studies will use hyper-spectral photoluminescence mapping, low temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy and TCSPC photoluminescence decay measurements to study carrier dynamics in these materials. Results from these studies will be used to assess the suitability of perovskite materials for next-generation X-ray imaging detectors. You will be working as part of a team of PhD students and academic staff to deliver this project. The research may involve working with our collaborating partners, and the location of the work is flexible.
About you
You will have a honours degree in physics and should have a PhD in a relevant discipline ideally including previous experience of radiation physics or related materials work. Practical research expertise in the electrical and optical characterisation of perovskite materials is essential.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£34,980) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£36,024).
