Your personal sphere of play

The Department of Communication, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna is one of the largest and strongest research-oriented departments for communication science worldwide. The advertised position is situated within the Advertising & Media Psychology Research Group, led by Professor Jörg Matthes. The Advertising & Media Psychology Research Group deals with the impact of modern media environments on people's thinking, behavior, and opinions, using both quantitative as well as qualitative methods to conduct their research.

The position is advertised to the extent of 40 hours/week (100%) for a period of six years, with the position ideally to be filled by August 1, 2024.

Your future tasks

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You build up your research profile and proactively integrate in the research group.
  • You publish in internationally, high-ranking journals.
  • You present your research at national and international conferences, meetings, and symposia.
  • You actively engage in applying for third-party funded projects.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise students and participate in examination activities within the Bachelor and Master programs Journalism and Communication Studies.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance.

This is part of your personality

  • You have obtained a completed doctoral/PhD degree in Communication Science or a related discipline.
  • You have competence in advertising research and/or strategic political communication and persuasion research.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of methods of empirical social research, especially quantitative methods and statistical data analysis.
  • You have experience in research-oriented university teaching.
  • You have experience dealing with research projects and applying for third-party funds.
  • Your aim is to publish your research in internationally, high-ranking journals and present the findings at national and international conferences.
  • You have experience in organizing scientific conferences and events.
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written German and English
  • Ability to work in teams and distinct organizational skills

Fixed-term contract and fair salary: The basic monthly gross salary for this advertised position currently (2024) is € 4.752,30 and will be paid 14 times a year for a period of six years (i.e., the duration of the contract). The basic salary increases if we can credit prior professional experience.
