About the Centre for Water Technology and Policy

The Centre for Water Technology and Policy, established in 2018, conducts cutting-edge research on water technology and water policy issues that produce findings of direct practical relevance for Hong Kong’s urban water sector. The Centre offers a vibrant working environment, embraces an innovative culture and commits to a can-do spirit. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Project Manager to formulate and to manage the Centre’s large-scale applied research projects on water conservation and river ecology conservation.

Position Overview

The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in driving an interdisciplinary research project, which aims at developing and applying innovative methods to study and conserve the freshwater ecology of local rivers. The project will encompass the monitoring of key ecological, hydrological, and water quality parameters as well as the creation of a data visualisation platform to help drive policy change. We emphasize the utilization of cutting-edge Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to help facilitate water conservation actions, to monitor the conveyance of conserved freshwater to local rivers, and to measure the impacts of water replenishment on receiving catchments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: Supervision of a team of research assistants from multiple Engineering and Social Sciences disciplines; management of data collection and data analysis; overseeing project budgeting and scheduling tasks; development of funding proposals; formulation of progress reports; and preparation of research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, the appointee is expected to contribute to the Centre's teaching and learning initiatives and related public engagement projects.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. degree in Ecology, Ecohydrology, Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Geography, or Natural Science
  • A minimum of five years of post-qualification experience
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Prior experience in managing research projects
  • Knowledge or experience in conducting local conservation projects would be advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Applicants with less experience will be considered for an Assistant Research Officer position

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. Other benefits include annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.

How to Apply

The University only accepts online application for the above post(s).  Applicants should apply online at the University’s Careers site (https://jobs.hku.hk) and upload a covering letter and an up-to-date C.V.  Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until June 30, 2024 or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
