We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer (Research & Education) to join the School of Biological Sciences, at Queen's University Belfast, to lead and undertake world-class research in the area of Biochemistry.

The School of Biological Sciences together with the Institute of Global Food Security (IGFS) provides a vibrant and integrated research and enterprise environment, conducting globally competitive and sustainable research that addresses major challenges and develops solutions to many of the global challenges that we face today. We are internationally recognised for our world leading research and are we number 1 in the UK for research excellence in the UK REF 2021 (UoA 6).

The School of Biological Sciences together with IGFS is a multidisciplinary centre for education, research, translation and commercialisation, harnessing science and innovation to tackle global challenges. Appointees are expected to broaden the School's research capabilities in the area of Biochemistry, while complementing our existing strengths. The School and Institute is a supportive and productive environment for biochemistry research, and you will have access to cutting edge infrastructure in the areas of molecular, genomic, proteomic and metabolomics to underpin your research.

The successful candidate who will fit with the strategic vision of the School and Institute will be expected to establish and lead independent, competitively-funded research programmes in their field of expertise and contribute to teaching a variety of aspects of the curriculum. They will support the School and Institute in providing high-quality student support in line with our teaching and learning strategy, fully utilising digital innovative platforms.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Honours degree or equivalent in Biochemistry or an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • Completion of a PGCHET (or equivalent) or HEA membership.
  • Research experience and profile which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security.
  • Record of high-quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals.
  • Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding or other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes as Principal Investigator.
  • Evidence of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
