Applications are invited for a Temporary (6 months) post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Civil Engineering.

The revised Climate Action Plan, the targets for wind energy in Ireland have been set as 6 GW of onshore wind energy by the end of 2025, growing to 9 GW of onshore wind energy by 2030, and at least 7 GW of offshore wind energy by the end of 2030 with 2 GW of that to be used for green hydrogen production. The ambitious plan includes the potential for in the region of 30 GWs off Ireland's west coast with the development of Floating Offshore Wind (FOW).

This project will establish an evidence base drawing of the global best practice on design flexibility for Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) developments. The successful candidate will support the team to review the state of art and design practices of OWTs across different countries to identify the current design components required by planning consent regulations (e.g. turbine overall height, tower hight, length of blades, etc.). The successful candidate will also evaluate the policy context of changes in OWTs technology alter the impact of wind farms in Ireland and the rest of the world.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

Post Doc Level 1 Salary Scale: €44,347 - €50,805 Per Annum.

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.
