Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit of the School of Clinical Medicine on a 60% fractional basis (Ref.:526970), to commence on August 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Applicants should possess a clinical qualification in medicine, nursing or other healthcare-related profession, with a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification teaching experience in medicine at universities. Applicants possess a Master’s degree and/or a doctoral degree in humanities, bioethics or social sciences are preferred but not essential. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior or ongoing experience in clinical practice, and a solid track record of teaching, innovation and curriculum development in the areas of cultural issues, professionalism, and doctors’ health and wellbeing. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to engage undergraduate students are essential.
The appointee will be responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of the MBBS medical ethics and humanities curriculum, including face-to-face and/or online teaching as required. In particular, he/she will bring clinical relevance and a clinician’s insight to the development of the curriculum and the delivery of teaching in workshops and tutorials.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will come with a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
