This research, initiated by the Horizon Europe project BlueBARGE, aims to create a sustainable and smart future for ports by designing and optimizing alternative power systems for onshore power supply and power barges.

You will work within a dynamic research group at a top university (NTNU) and gain valuable experience collaborating with world-leading partners on this multidisciplinary project. You will contribute to the design and optimization of power-barge solutions incorporating state-of-the-art battery technologies and alternative fuels for a zero-emission energy portfolio. You will develop and analyze system models to ensure safe integration and optimization of the power-barge system. Smart control and management systems will also be developed for seamless and sustainable operation.

Your immediate leaders are your supervisor and the Head of the Department.

Duties of the position

  • Conduct original research focused on the design, optimization, and control of power-barge systems for sustainable maritime electrification, including critical literature review to identify the state-of-the-art and research gaps, problem formulation, designing research methodologies, and generating, collecting, and analyzing data.
  • Publish findings in top-tier journals and present at international conferences to disseminate research outcomes and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in sustainable maritime electrification.
  • Collaborate actively within the research group and with external partners, fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Participate in a range of research activities, including case studies, laboratory and experimental work, data collection, and analysis.
