The Oskar Morgenstern Doctoral School (OMDS) imparts problem consciousness and the analytical skills required by future academic leaders and top researchers to excel and create lasting impact in society. By combining a theory-based approach with modern empirical, experimental, statistical, and computational methods, future leaders of the industry and academia will be well equipped with cutting-edge methods to manage the complex societal challenges in economics and business.

The position is to be filled from 03.08.2024 and is limited until 02.08.2025.

The OMDS offers a 12-months Completion Contract for fellows at the OMDS who have held a position as University Assistant (predoc) or a PhD position at the University of Vienna before. These Completion Contracts aim to support highly qualified fellows in the final phase of their doctoral studies. Recipients will be employed as University Assistants (predoc) and will work at one of the 5 tracks of the OMDS at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Your main task is to complete and to submit your dissertation
  • You meet and consult with your supervisor(s) on a regular basis in order to prioritise your tasks and to get the necessary support to complete your dissertation successfully in time
  • You participate in your department’s and the OMDS’ activities and workshops
  • You participate in conferences and draft research results for publication in peer-review journals
  • You actively seek support (workshops, training, coaching etc.) if necessary

This is part of your personality:

General skills:

  • Above average MSc. or equivalent in field of study relevant for the respective position
  • Excellent academic and study record (e.g. outstanding publication record, invitation to prestigious conferences and workshops etc.)
  • High level of motivation and commitment to successfully complete your doctoral studies in the anticipated time frame
  • Collaborative, team-minded and pro-active attitude
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience with the structures of the University of Vienna

Special skills:

  • Expertise in contract theory and capital market models
  • Experience in the application of game theoretic models to managerial and financial accounting topics, especially Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)
  • Extensive knowledge of Mathematics (Probability theory, Analysis, Optimization)
  • Proficiency in Mathematica
