Shape the future of allergy-related anxiety care!

Excited by the opportunity to work therapeutically and engage in research with children, young people, adults, and families?

The University of Surrey, in collaboration with Anaphylaxis UKa leading allergy charity, are seeking a passionate Clinical Psychologist to spearhead a groundbreaking Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Project.

For 30 years, Anaphylaxis UK have been empowering people with serious allergies and their families by providing evidence-based information across various sectors. Now, they’re taking a bold step towards mental health.

The KTP aims to revolutionise allergy-related anxiety care.

  • Develop and train staff to deliver a bespoke, digitised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-based intervention specifically designed to reduce allergy-related anxiety.
  • Enhance the skills of volunteer support group leaders and helpline staff through training, consultation, and clinical leadership, as part of developing a psychologically informed environment (PIE).
  • Position Anaphylaxis UK as a leader in tackling allergy-related mental health challenges, ultimately improving lives and reducing healthcare burden.

This position is based with Anaphylaxis UK in Farnborough, Hampshire - the Charity is currently operating VIRTUALLY. You will be supported by a team of renowned experts from the University of Surrey, including Professor Christina Jones and Dr Warren Matofsky (School of Psychology).

This role is perfect for a highly motivated Clinical Psychologist who is:

  • Doctoral level trained in clinical psychology (accredited by the British Psychological Society).
  • HCPC registered.
  • Experience in complex clinical assessment, intervention, and case management (requires sustained focus and emotional resilience).
  • Committed to developing as a trainer, supervisor, and leader of innovative clinical services.
  • Excited by opportunity to work therapeutically and engage in research with children, young people, adults, and families.
  • Experience in doctoral-level research (design, analysis with-SPSS/Jamovi, interpretation and dissemination).

This role is ideal for a person who thrives in a collaborative, technologically evolving environment. Excellent team dynamics and service governance implementation skills are essential. A genuine interest in specialised psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups is a plus.

This 36-month fixed-term contract offers exceptional benefits.

  • Business-based training: Develop diverse technical and non-technical soft skills (such as project management).
  • Generous dedicated training budget: Invest in continuous learning and professional growth, with time specifically allocated for further development.
  • Extensive support package includes weekly supervision with research and clinical specialists.
  • Potential for a permanent position at Anaphylaxis UK upon successful completion of the project.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dan Bance, email: ilovektp@surrey.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address cannot be accepted.

We encourage early applications. We reserve the right to close the application window early if we receive a high volume of qualified candidates.

This project is part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) program. By applying, you consent to your application being shared with Anaphylaxis UK, the host organisation.

Due to the nature of this KTP project, this position requires an enhanced DBS check before appointment.
